Improvements in rolling elements bearings

A rolling element bearing component is abraded by immersing the component in a receptacle containing abrasive particles and then rotating the component in one direction at 5-15 rpm and the receptacle in the opposite direction at 30-90 rpm for a period of 10 minutes to 1 hour. Abrasion may improve the surface finish of the component from 0.13žm to 0.07žm and increase the compressive stress in the surface of the component by 200-500 MPa. The abrasive particles may comprise alumina. The receptacle may also comprise an aqueous fluid and a corrosion inhibitor.
