Iodine-containing radioactive sources

A radioactive source for use in brachytherapy comprising a radioactive isoto pe of iodine in the form of iodide ions or an iodine-containing compound adsorb ed on the surface of a substantially non-radiation attenuating substrate. Preferably the source is a seed and the radioisotope is iodine-125. Preferre d substrates include carbon, particularly activated carbon. The sources may be useful for the treatment of restenosis.
