A method and apparatus for measuring properties of a paper web, whereby at least one property of the paper web (3) is measured simultaneously at least at two locations in the cross direction of the paper web (3) by means of at least two adjacent sensors (2a to 2d). The adjacent sensors (2a to 2d) measure at least part of the time a common band (c), i.e. they overlap. Data is collected on the measurements of the common band (c) and statistical calculation methods are applied to the collected data and the sensor readings are equalized.
