The invention relates to a process for preparing an adhesive meant to ncrease the mechanical resistance of dry writing paper for printing. According to the invention, the process consists in polymerizing a monomer blend comprising 85 to 75 % acrylamide, 12 ...17 % acrylic acid, 3 ...8% vynil acetate in the presence of 0.9 % ammonium persulphate as peroxyde-type initiator, which is distributed in a ratio of 15 % inside a polymerization vessel, and 85 % in an initiator dosing vessel, the time for the concomitant dosing of the monomer blend and of the initiator solution being 180 min. By using the claimed process one can prepare a copolymer which, used as a paper additive, increases the mechanical resistence characteristics.
