The invention relates to a flying method and a heavier-than-air flying machine with vertical take off / landing to be used for passenger and cargo transport. According to the invention, the flight method consists in using the lifting forces resulting from the differential pressure created between the upper side and the lower side of an elytron during the movement of an amount of air in the close proximity of said elytron. According to the invention, the flying machine is provided with an immobile or rotating elytron (4) having the shape of an annular crown lying in the rotation plane of a propeller (3), the section of said elytron (4) being a profile with upward or downward concave and convex surfaces or a flat profile.
