A token based data processing system is disclosed that uses data object tokens (DOTs) to manage the associated data objects within the data processing system. The numerous advantages of a token based data processing system stem from the ability to utilize a DOT separate from its associated data object. A data processing system according to the present invention can include a data object origination system, a data object storage system, a token generating system, a token transmission system, one or more token recipient systems, a token processing system, and a data object processing system. The token generating system can generate a DOT that contains metadata corresponding to the information that the token generating system receives regarding the data object, including its attributes, the parameters stored with it, and other information regarding its originating system and its recipient system. After being distributed by a token transmission system, token recipient systems can analyze and process the DOTs in lieu of the associated data objects. |
