The method involves rotating the tool (2) about an axis and acquiring images at different angular positions with a camera of an image processor. The maximum radial and/or axial maxima (12a,13a) of the contour acquired by the camera for various rotary positions are determined and the set in relation to each other in a computer for tool measurement.
