An electrical connector assembly is provided, which comprises a plug (20) and socket (30) having a locking means to lock the plug and socket together. The plug comprises a cable lug (22) for attachment to a conductor, and an electrical contact (24) for establishing an electrical connection with the socket (30). The socket comprises a socket cavity for receiving the plug (20), and an electrical contact for establishing an electrical connection with the plug. The locking means comprises at least one key (36) in the form of a sphere located within a recess on one of the plug and socket, and at least one groove formed on the other of the plug and socket and adapted to interlock with the key (36).
