A magnetic tape cartridge comprising a flat cartridge case with flat upper and lower surfaces in which a single reel with a magnetic tape wound thereon is stored rotatably, wherein at least three island-like or point-like protruded parts (11) are formed near the underside edge of a cartridge case (7) on the leading and trailing sides with respect to the direction of insertion X into an external recording and reproducing device of a magnetic tape cartridge, and a recessed part (12) capable of engaging with the protruded part (11) of the cartridge case (7) which is put on the upper side at the time of stacking is formed on the upper surface of the cartridge case (7), whereby a positional displacement of the magnetic tape cartridge caused when a plurality of magnetic tape cartridges are stacked is prevented and a sliding resistance occurred when the magnetic tape cartridge is inserted into the recording and reproducing device is reduced.
