The sliding sunroof construction has a sliding roof panel, received within a peripheral frame (16) and moved between a closed and an open position for a sunroof opening (8), with a windshield (18) slid parallel to the sliding roof panel frame, e.g. by using the latter as a displacement guide, for selectively covering a first or a second section (24,28) of the frame opening, one of which has a a solar screening material (26) across it.
