The invention relates to a circuit for detecting an admissibly high current in an output stage (10) containing two transistors (T1, T2), which are located in a bridge branch of a bridge circuit. A comparator (18) compares the voltage present at the connecting point of the two transistors (T1, T2) with the voltage present at the middle tap (20) of a voltage divider (21) connected to the power supply connections (11, 12). A switching transistor (T3) switches the voltage divider ratio of the voltage divider (21) according to the switching signal (15, 16) of one of the transistors (T1, T2).
