LOW PRESSURE DROP INLET FOR HIGH VELOCITY ABSORBERS WITH STRAIGHT TANKS

A low pressure drop inlet arrangement for an absorber (20) having straight walls has a perforated tray (50) positioned above the gas inlet opening (34) between the walls of the absorber (20). A ring around the outer edge of the tray lacks perforations, or the perforations are covered. A drip ledge (52) may be positioned on the bottom of the tray around the inner edge of the non-perforated ring. Baffles (60) are positioned over the tray as well. The baffles (60) may extend between the walls of the absorber (20), or they may only occupy the space over the perforations (56) in the tray and the size of the tray perforations (56) may be varied to control the overall pressure drop. An absorber (20) made in accordance with the invention experiences a low pressure drop at the gas inlet opening (34).
