SLEEP PREVENTION DEVICE AND TINNITUS RELIEF DEVICE

A sleep prevention device operates by monitoring light reflected from the area of at least one of the users eyes and by discriminating between light reflected from an open eye and a closed eye. If the eye remains shut for longer than a predetermined period, an alarm is activated to rouse the user. The device may be configured as a pair of spectacles, with light sensors (18L, 18R) an alarm (20) and power source (22) incorporated therein. A further light sensor (24) may be included to detect ambient light for comparison with reflected light signals detected by the main sensors. Also disclosed is a tinnitus relief device in which solid state signal generating means generates an audio signal adapted to at least partially cancel the audible whistling/ringing which is symptomatic of tinnitus. This device may be worn adjacent the user's ear, may be incorporated into a pair of spectacles, or may be incorporated into a sleep prevention device as disclosed.
