The light metal rivet for use in aircraft manufacture comprises a tubular sleeve (2) with a positioning head (6). The sleeve is inserted through holes in the components (4, 5) to be joined. A rivet (3) is then inserted into the sleeve. The rivet can be removed by boring, forming a hole for the insertion of a different fastening component. The diameter (D5) of the positioning head is given by the equation: D5 = d1 = 0.8 /!0.1, where d1 is the outer diameter of the sleeve.
