The method involves correlating a first received signal section with M test and Q-M data bits, where Q is smaller than K, the number of data bits per burst, with all possible transmission signals that can be generated with Q bits, correlating a second received signal section contg. the Q+1 th data bit with all possible transmission signals that can be generated with the Q+1 th bit, adding the correlations, computing all 2Q+1-M quadratic forms with the resulting correlations, seeking the highest form and associated data sequence and repeating the process for sections contg. the Q+2 th, Q+3 th to M+K-1 th bits. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for implementing the method in a cellular mobile network.
