The book end has a vertical support plate (1) and a foot section (2) which is at right angles to it. The foot section is in the form of a slide with sections (5, 6) at either end forming a U-shaped channel which grips the edge of the shelf. A manual fastener (13, 14) is fitted on one side of the foot.
