The method involves feeding the audio signal via a first path (P1) to the first input of an adder (A1), band limiting (BP1) it in a second path (P2), multiplying by a correction factor, amplifying it and limiting its magnitude to a maximum value. The correction factor (GC) is reduced if the maximum value is exceeded. The limited signal is band limited in a second filter (BP2) and added to the audio signal of the first path. An Independent claim is also included for a circuit for processing an audio signal.
