Spray pyrolysis or spray drying apparatus comprises a reaction tube (1) located in an outer tube (2) made of heat-resistant steel sheet so that an annular chamber is formed between both tubes; an atomizing system (3) at the end of the tube and in the opposite-lying end of the gas outlet (4); one or more gas inlet supports (5) in the annular chamber; and gas inlet slits (6, 7) at the top of the atomizing system opening out into the reaction tubes. An Independent claim is also included for a spray pyrolysis or spray drying process. Preferred Features: The reaction tube is made of a heat-resistant porous material, especially a metal alloy.
