The C-arch X-ray unit has a computer (11) to which images from the X-ray image amplifier (10) are transferred. To determine calibration data the computer evaluated the image data detected with a marker phantom (12) arranged in front of the fluorescent screen of the X-ray image amplifier. The marker phantom has X-ray positive marks (13) which are mapped to the X-ray images. When distortions occur in the mapped marks, the computer determines calibration data for the operation site of the X-ray unit (1). Calibration data are stored in memory (15) for further use.
