A seal for a sliding door or window (1) which has its lower edge running in a metal guide rail (7) with vertical side ribs (8) and a central rib engaging with a slot along the middle of the door or window edge consists of an extrusion attached to the outer surface of the door or window adjacent to the guide rail. The extrusion has a rigid L-section upper portion (4) and an additional flexible and elastic lip (5) extending downwards from the outer edge of the upper section to press against the lateral surface of the guide rail. The door or window can be fitted with seal strips also both sides of its lower edge guide rail.
