The unit includes a range of facilities mounted within a common protective carrying case. The lighting unit comprises a single modular casing which houses a musical sequencing circuit which is associated with several different lamps (1), a stroboscope (2), a light effects generator (3), a black light projector (5), a smoke generator and a laser beam generator. The light effects generator may includes a movable parabolic reflector and a mirror which may be controlled in response to music. All these components are mounted in the same casing both for protection, and for transport. The control functions for the lights are all provided on a common circuit board which is itself integrated within the casing. All the functions provided by the lighting unit may be accessed by a remote control having either a cable connection to the unit, or a radio link with the unit.
