Valves opening and closing pattern for internal combustion engine includes compression phase in order to create engine's brake effect

Internal combustion engine has plunger (14) translating between higher (PMH) and lower position (PMB). All valves are closed between time (T1) and (T2) of plunger's rise in order to create compression phase (Pc) which duration related to desired brake effect. Between time (T2) and (T3) outlet and admission valves are opened one after the other, to initiate expansion/induction phase (Pd/a).
