The crate (1) consists of a rectangular tray (2) whose sides (15) may be overlapped by the sides (10) of the lid (3). The ends (6) of the lid may overlap the ends (5) of the trays. The top of the lid maybe formed by folding flaps. A portion (4) of the end wall may be torn away by the user when opening the crate. There are pre-cut portions and gluing points (16,17) on the side walls. The crate may be made of plain or corrugated cardboard.
