The treatment machine has a frame (10) carrying vertically displaceable tools or tines (12) which penetrate the soil and remove cores (8), leaving vertical blind bores (7). The frame is towed behind a tractor (9) and is supported by a roller (13). There is a linkage (11), which controls the motion of the tines, and there is an angled metal apron (14) which is fastened to a belt (2) with segmental side walls (21). A pile of sand (8') may be placed on the belt, which may be turned over to dump the sand on the ground. The sand fills up the vertical blind bores made in the ground by the tines.
