The device has a measuring chamber (4) delimited by a front face (10) of a piston (8) which is displaced in a cylinder (6) under the action of the injected fuel. The piston has a cylindrical skirt (40), with an annular slot (42) on its exterior face, which guides the piston (8) inside the chamber (4). The piston (8) is displaced inside a smooth walled sleeve. The annular slot (42) delimits with the interior wall of the cylinder a moving chamber, fed with pressurized fuel. Axially shifted feed (46) and evacuation (48) pipes are connected into the chamber (4). The fuel injected into the slot (42) in the piston (8) is used to cool and make uniform the temperature of the measuring device. The axial height of the slot (42) corresponds to about half the total height of the piston (8).
