The cylinder and helix are situated underwater in water flow, extracting energy without impeding surface vessels. The equipment for generating hydro-electricity includes a ring (2) inside which there is an integral helix (2) with at least two radial blades (21). The helix is solidly attached to the ring by the ends of the radial blades so that the ring is turned by the passage of water through the helix. The ring may have external teeth, so that the rotation of the ring can be transmitted to the pinion providing rotation of the mechanism (50,51) for the generation of electricity. Alternatively the rotation of the ring may be transferred by use of a chain or belt drive. The number of blades provided for the helix may be between two and eight. The projected surface of the helix is than or equal to half of the surface defined by the outer ring.
