The head restraint is held in guides and moved by support bars and a drive from a lower to top position during a crash. A net (7) is installed in the top section of the backrest (2) and is additionally fastened to the head restraint (1). When the head restraint is moved during a crash, the net is tensioned to act as a protection barrier against flying cargo. The net is located behind the support bars (4) and is held in a roller unit (8). The drive is a spring, unlocked electro-magnetically, or a pyrotechnic drive (6). One of the support bars if formed as a piston (9) of this drive.
