The invention relates to a mechanical dental tool for removing carious dentin. Before a filling is made the carious dentin of a tooth must be completely removed in order to prevent the caries from progressing below the filling. The aim of the invention is to provide a dental tool that facilitates a precise ablation of carious dentin vis-à-vis the healthy, harder dentin so that the ablation of healthy dentin is minimized. Another aim is the complete removal of carious dentin. To this end, the head part of the mechanical dental tool is configured as a brush with bristles that are arranged in the form of bunches or tufts, said bristles being harder than carious dentin and softer than healthy dentin.
