A method for manufacturing a plant support, wherein a box-shaped element (1) is manufactured having an at least partially open wall, the box-shaped element (1) being at least partially covered with a preferably substantially biodegradable covering material (20), said covering material (20) being provided in such a manner that it covers the partially open wall at least partially, such that the wall becomes soil-proof, while roots of a plant or the like, growing in the pot during use, can grow at least partially through the covering material (20) and the wall to the outside of the plant support (1). Such plant supports (1) can be used to raise plants and the like at a first position and subsequently displacing them to a second, definitive position, where the plant supports (1) can be secured in or to the ground. The plant supports (1) can be provided with a substantially vertical guide element (2) along which a guide plant can be cultivated. By juxtaposing a number of said plant supports (1), a continuous hedge is obtained.
