<p>An apparatus (10) for growing a crystal having a solid surface (11a) comprising a silicon oxide and a solid surface (12a) comprising an alumina, wherein the solid surface (11a) and the solid surface (12a) are arranged so that both of them contacts with a solution (14) containing a protein to be crystallized. The solid surface (11a) and the solid surface (12a) have surface potentials or zeta potentials which are different from each other upon the contact with the solution (14). In an embodiment, the solid surface (11a) has a negative charge and the solid surface (12a) has a positive charge and thus a negatively charged protein (13) is selectively adsorbed by the positively charged solid surface (12a), which results in the growth of the crystal of the protein (13) on the solid surface (12a). The apparatus is useful for the crystallization of a biopolymer such as a protein.</p> |
