The method involves using sensors to detect a temperature parameter and a pressure parameter. From these parameters, a first parameter is detected that characterizes the air quantity supplied to the internal combustion engine. A further sensor is used to detect a second parameter that characterizes the air quantity supplied to the engine. The second parameter is adapted using the first parameter, and/or the first parameter is used as an alternative value for the second parameter. An Independent claim is included for an apparatus for controlling an internal combustion engine.
