Method for increasing the resistance of crop plants to chemical stress, particularly where caused by insufficiently selective or inappropriately applied herbicides, by genetically engineering plants to have reduced activity of flavanone-3-hydroxylase (I). An Independent claim is also included for plants produced this way.
