A semiconductor sensor for detecting methane gas has the flow of gas diffusing to the sensor limited by a cap (6) surrounding the sensor, allowing for full combustion of the ethanol or hydrogen gas molecules present in the air cushion. The cap has a drilled hole (5) of diameter 1-200 limiting the diffusing gas flow.
