Vehicle seat includes fixed casing supporting vehicle occupant restraint member so as to be movable between rest and deployed positions. Power actuator (7) with pistons (6), supported by casing selectively drives the restraint member toward the deployed position. The fixed casing and restraint member form a part of the structural member of the seat frame (2). A laterally extending notch (20a) facilitates deformation of the seat member (20) when the restraint member is actuated. Seat frame includes rear member (18), side members and an optional front member. The power actuator comprises cylinder which is received and fixed in the casing (2a) of the seat frame. The restraint member consists of a pipe member or any other stamped sheet metal member for a required mechanical strength at a minimum cost. The seat member may have a front cross member connecting front ends of side members, and extending in parallel with the restraint member.
