Introduction of biomass from above through a tube with an internal conveyor screw, is new. Preferred Features: The feed hopper enters the tube from one or both sides, subtending a small angle with the vertical axis. The tube end, lies below the central transverse axis. The discharge of biomass is made to the first paddle, one of many welded to and rotating together on a stirrer shaft running along the tank. In dead space between the end of the tank and the screw, a biomass deflector rotates with the paddles, directing biomass towards them.
