PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair dyeing agent having uniform hair dyeing properties and excellent fastness by making the hair dyeing agent include lanolin and its derivative and a specific carboxylic acid. SOLUTION: This hair dyeing agent comprises (A) one or more kinds selected from lanolin and its derivative and (B) one or more selected from a hydroxycarboxylic acid and/or its salt. The content of the component A is 0.1-20 wt.% and that of the component B is 0.01-10 wt.%. The component A is preferably a lanolin fatty acid ester. The component B is one or more kinds selected from anα-hydroxycarboxylic acid, aβ-hydroxycarboxylic acid and their salts, more preferably a glycolic acid and/or its salt. The hair dyeing agent is preferably a permanent hair dyeing agent and can contain an arbitrary component useful in an ordinary hair dyeing agent.
