PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a drive unit which can easily reduce variations in light emission amount between laser diodes in a multi-beam semiconductor laser, when adjusting the light emission amount of each laser diode. SOLUTION: This semiconductor laser drive unit is equipped with a selecting means, that converts photocurrent of a single monitoring photo diode 1c into a voltage signal through a common current/voltage conversion means and select an appropriate voltage signal for each of laser diodes 1a and 1b, an amplifying means having an amplification factor changing means that can change the voltage amplification factor with which the voltage signals is converted into a monitoring signal for each laser diode, a reference voltage signal generating means which consists of a single reference voltage source 20 and a balance factor changing means 35 to divide the voltage between the laser diodes 1a and 1b at a required ratio, and a constant current supplying means which controls laser drive current, so that the monitoring signal matches with the reference voltage signal.
