PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently compress image data at a high-speed and to realize it without the need for a complicated circuit configuration. SOLUTION: A pixel block generating section 1 divides received image data to generate a reference block and generates shift blocks that are divided at a position that is offset from the division position of the reference blocks. A coding processing section 2 applies coding to the reference blocks and each of the shift blocks and stores the result to a page buffer 3. A compression rate calculation section 5 respectively integrates a code amount of the coded image data of each block and calculates a compression rate respectively when the coding processing is finished. A compression rate comparison section 6 compares compression rates of the blocks, a selection section 7 selects image data coded with a highest compression rate and reads the coded data from the page buffer 3 and outputs the data. |
