PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thread cutter capable of shortening a cycle time. SOLUTION: This sewing machine is provided with a contact prohibiting member 5 which prevents the contact of threads 22 and 23 to be cut with a heating element 3 before the threads arrive at a thread cutting position when these threads are moved by a capturing member 4. The threads may be brought near to the heated heating element without contact therewith at the time the threads are successively brought near to the heating element. The heating element may be heated by passing current thereto before the threads to be cut arrive at the thread cutting position.
