PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate enlargement of a screen by obtaining barrier ribs high in dimensional accuracy and uniform in height, by alternately layering plates of the same thickness as the barrier ribs and plates of the same thickness as the width of cells and causing the plates of the same thickness as the width of the cells to project by the height of the barrier ribs to form groove parts in stripes. SOLUTION: Metallic plates A of the same thickness as barrier ribs and metallic plates B of the same thickness as the width of cells are machined into linear shapes, and the metallic plates A and the metallic plates B are alternately placed one on another. This is fixed so that no gaps are produced and that linearly machined edges of the metallic plates B uniformly project, thus forming a stripe forming die. Groove parts in the stripe forming die so obtained are filled with a paste-like barrier-rib forming material comprising a low melting-point glass powder, a butyral resin, a solvent, a dispersant, etc., and this is bonded under pressure to a glass substrate fitted with electrodes. Then, the stripe forming die is peeled off. The glass substrate with a barrier-rib molding thus formed thereon is retained at a fixed temperature to remove a binder and baked, thus forming desired barrier ribs of good shapes.
