PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silicon carbide-based porous form having fine pore size, high porosity and high mechanical strength. SOLUTION: This silicon carbide-based porous form is obtained by incorporating 100 pts.wt. of silicon carbide powder 0.1-2 μm (pref. 0.2-1 μm) in average particle size with 8-25 pts.wt. of a compound having both alumina and silica and a melting point of <=1,300 deg.C followed by carrying out a molding into a silicon carbide-based molded form 40-55% in porosity, which is then burned at <=1,320 deg.C in a nonoxidative atmosphere. |
