PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and accurately detect an edge of an achromatic part with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The image processing unit is provided with an input means 1 that separates an input image signal of color image data into a plurality of planes, an edge discrimination means 2 that applies edge discrimination to at least at plane, a comparison means 3 that compares the plane with remaining planes when the edge discrimination means 2 discriminates the plane to be an edge to obtain a difference signal 10, and an achromatic color discrimination means 4 that discriminates the edge of the achromatic part from the difference signal 10.
