PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder block not causing casting defects such as shrink age cavities on the lower portion of a water jacket. SOLUTION: A cylinder block made of an aluminum alloy comprises a cylinder liner made of a ferrous alloy that cast-envelops a cylinder bore 3a on the bore face, and formed with a water jacket 5 to surround the cylinder bore 3a. The cylinder liner 4 is also formed thin on the top deck portion 2 side, while formed thick on the lower portion with respect to the water jacket 5. The cylinder liner 4, in which a boundary portion 4b between the thin portion 4a and thick portion 4c is formed smooth without a step, cast-envelops the bore face of the cylinder bore 3a.
