PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing alkyloylhydrazones, capable of producing the subject compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals or general-purpose chemicals, from inexpensive raw materials through a one-step process in a high yield, by reacting a ketone with hydrazine in the presence of an lower aliphatic carboxylic acid. SOLUTION: This method for producing alkyloylhydrazones comprises reacting a ketone of formula I [R1 and R2 are each H, an (substituted)alkyl, an (substituted)aralkyl, an (substituted)aryl or an (substituted)alkenyl, or give a ring in such a state that R1 and R2 combine to form the ring] (for example, acetone) with hydrazine (as a commercially available reagent, such as hydrazine anhydride or hydrazine monohydrate) in the presence of a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid (for example, an alkanoic acid which is liquid at ordinary temperature, such as acetic acid) to form the objective compound of formula II [R3 is an (substituted)alkyl] [for example, N-acetyl-N'-(phenylethyl-1,1-idene)- hydrazone]. The reaction is usually conducted at about 40-250 deg.C, and preferably about 60-200 deg.C.
