PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high quality images in which noise is reduced in matching with an image pickup state and a sense of high resolution is ensured with a simple circuit configuration. SOLUTION: A noise reduction circuit embodying a noise reduction device is configured so that the circuit detects an unusual point among a plurality of pixels including surrounding pixels with respect to an input signal and reduces noise by eliminating the unusual point. The circuit is provided with an unusual point eliminating circuit 1 that receives an original image signal S1 and outputs a reference image signal S2 from which the unusual point is eliminated and a synthesis circuit 2 that synthesizes the original image signal S1 with the reference image signal S2 on the basis of the original image signal S1, the reference image signal S2 and a synthesis ratio control signal (k) and provides an output of the result.
