PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the deterioration of hydrogen generating reaction properties and further enhance the NOx cleaning power after an endurance life. SOLUTION: A desulfurization catalyst such as a Co-Mo/Al2O3 catalyst or Ni-Mo/Al2O3 is added to a catalyst-carrying layer. It is considered that SOx contained in an exahust gas is mainly desulfurized by hydrogenation by the help of the desulfurization catalyst and thereby the adsorption of SOx into the catalyst-carrying layer and the chemical reaction of SOx with an NOx occluding material are inhibited. In addition, the sulfur poisoning of the desulfurization catalyst itself is inhibited, so that the deterioration of a hydrogen generating reaction is inhibited and the NOx cleaning power after the endurance life is further enhanced. |
