PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup unit where power consumption can be minimized in the case that the image pickup device is used in connection with an information processing unit. SOLUTION: This image pickup unit 1 is used by being connected to an information processing unit 2 and receives power supply from the information processing unit 2. The image pickup unit 1 is provided with an image pickup element 12 that applies photoelectric conversion to light from an object, a memory 16 that can store image data of at least one frame, a memory control circuit 17 that controls the memory 16 so that the memory 16 receives image data from the image pickup element 12 for a 1st period and the image data in the memory 16 are read and transferred to the image processing unit 2 for a 2nd period different from the 1st period, and a power supply control circuit 22 that shuts off power supply to the circuit that reads the image data from the image pickup element 12 and writes the image data to the memory 16 for the 2nd period.
