PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a communication network, even when many communication networks coexist. SOLUTION: In a method for assigning network identifier, the NET-IDs (network identifiers) of peripheral base stations are examined when a new communication network is installed, and thereafter, an appropriate NET-ID is decided to the new network, based on the results of the examination. The decided NET-ID is updated on NET-ID tables stored at the base stations. When no unused NET-ID is found as a result of the examination, an expanded NET-ID is set and, at the same time, the number of bits assigned to the NET-ID is enlarged. |
