PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the angle of visibility in almost all directions and to obtain a screen having good balance in brightness. SOLUTION: A front side polarizing plate 2 and a back side polarizing plate 3 are disposed on the front and back faces of a liquid crystal cell 1, respectively. A back light 4 is disposed on the back of the back side polarizing plate 3. A light-diffusing plate 10 is disposed between the liquid crystal cell 1 and the front side polarizing plate 2. The light-diffusing plate 10 consists of a transparent material having no retardation or a transparent material having uniaxial low retardation and the plate diffuses the light exiting from the front face of the liquid crystal cell 1 in almost all directions. |
