PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a steroid compound useful as an intermediate for producing various kinds of vitamin D derivatives useful for the therapy of chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, etc., by the solvolysis of the enol ester part of a specific triene compound. SOLUTION: A 1,2-epoxy-5-ene compound [e.g. (1α,2α,3β,20S)-3-t- butyldimethylsilyloxy-21-chloro-1,2-epoxy-7-hydroxy-20-methylpregna-5- ene, etc.], of formula IV is obtained by subjecting of the enol ester part at the seventh site of a 1,5,7-triene compound expressed by formula I (wherein R1 is H or a protecting group; R2 is an acyl; and X is a halogen) to a solvolysis, epoxidizing double bonds between the first and second sites of the resultant 1,5-diene-7-one expressed by formula II and reducing the seventh site of the resultant 1,2-epoxy-5-en-7-one expressed by formula III.
